At Recharge Earth, the leading congress held in Rotterdam Ahoy on 18 and 19 September, 2024, energy professionals from various backgrounds come together to find innovative solutions for a sustainable tomorrow. The congress serves as a platform for collaboration, where government institutions, innovative entrepreneurs, knowledge institutes, grid operators, and energy generators unite to address the complexities of the energy transition.

As a young energy leader, you will have the chance to showcase your talent and ideas in front of industry experts and key stakeholders.

Criteria for the Recharge Earth Young Energy Leader Award are as follows:

  • You are enrolled in a HBO or WO degree program.
  • Your thesis topic must focus on the energy transition, encompassing either a technical or social-economical theme.
  • Demonstrated passion for the energy sector and commitment to sustainability.
  • Innovative thinking and the ability to propose creative solutions.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • You should be available to pitch your thesis in real life during the pitch day and the congress (so you are in the Netherlands September 17th, 18th and 19th).

The participating programs will nominate the best thesis that fit with the above criteria. A team of judges will evaluate the student projects on these criteria during the Recharge Earth event, where students will be able to pitch their project.

Pitch information
All nominees will present their projects in a 3-minute pitch on Tuesday, September 17th 2024. The jury then selects three finalists for the University (WO) prize and tree finalists for the University of Applied Sciences (HBO) Award, who will do their pitch again during the Recharge Earth conference on September 18th in Rotterdam Ahoy.

You may use 1-3 PowerPoint slides for your presentation. The pitch can be in Dutch or English and should address the following questions:

  • What is the topic of the thesis and what are the results?
  • What is the impact of the thesis?
  • What was your specific contribution?

 

Evaluation
The pitches will be evaluated by an expert jury. After the pitches, the jury will select finalists for the award ceremony. All finalists will present their projects on the plenary stage. Then the jury will select a winner based on the following criteria:

  1. What? Content and depth of the analysis/application of proper methodologies/creativity in the approach
  2. Why? Relevance & impact
    • Towards accelerating the energy transition
    • (Potential) scientific and/or societal impact
  3. How? Presentation and convincingness

 

Programme:
The award ceremony is at 13.45 - 14.15 on the plenary stage.
